    Terminal 2

Terminal 2 was completed in 1993, making it the oldest building in the ensemble forming the complex of terminals. It was designed by the prominent architectural practice von Gerkan Marg & Partner. The sweeping roof is designed to remind the viewer of a plane’s wings during take off. In addition to the spectacular sweeping form glass and steel are the dominant architectural features. Terminal 2 has a floor area of some 5,850 m2.

Terminal 2 was the first terminal complex to be completed

All flights operated by Lufthansa, Condor, Germanwings, members of the Star Alliance (such as SAS or LOT) and their partner airlines operate from Terminal 2.
Thanks to numerous technical alterations and modernisation measures Terminal 2 has been brought up to the same standard as Terminal 1, opened in 2005. The entire baggage handling system in Terminal 2 was restructured during normal operations to allow baggage checks to be carried out exclusively via the fully automated system located on the building’s lower ground floor and not, as in some cases previously, above ground at the check-in counters. In addition to this all the lighting equipment in the terminal was refurbished and new reflectors and cover glass were installed. The ticket and check-in counters were also all replaced and brought up to the latest technical standards.
